Except theres no point to doing so, it only hurts the server as a whole by spreading the playerbase out more.

It causes a divide in players, which can result in more battalions dying, it's been gone over multiple times in the "Officer Academy" post, specifically replies by Naz and Odin

We should keep what battalions we have and once we have plenty of players in each battalion, we can think about adding back some battalions.

That is the current plan of the officers.
But...he's 100% right. You don't just, "pick an officer". The officer has to be right for the job, active enough for it, skilled enough to do it, etc.
He's also right about it hurting the server, the more thinly spread out your playerbase is amongst your battalions, the worse off player count, regiment-player count, etc, is.
