Currently, the DC-17 will fully overheat after 15 consecutive shots taking around 3 seconds to reset the heat. However, another way to diminish heat is waiting around 1 second without firing, then about 7 for the heat to completely subside without overheating. I think overheating was added to give an in-game reason why it has infinite ammo; it is faster and overall better to reach maximum heat, forcing you to reload. Though I think it might be better to half the time until it starts cooling down and the time to completely cool down. It'd give some situational use to how the pistol is played without changing its overall DPS or balance.
