Journal log: Entry two

An armored figure sits back in its seat. Bright light glints off of the sand-blasted visor of the helm next to the figure. It frowns and presses a button on its datapad.

"So here I am, my dear journal. In the stomach of a Chiss frigate."

The figure leans his seat back forcing the front two legs off of the ground. Piercing light of a hanging fixture reflects off the datapad's screen. A white streak dances across the drab walls.

"You may recall me saying that I was being tailed in my last entry. The clever bastards did more than that. They had eyes on me almost the instant I entered the Unknown Regions. They only decided to stop me when I tried to land on one of their planets, WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW WAS THEIRS."

A red set of eyes narrows in the darkness around the armored figure. A voice spits out a threatening hiss of foreign words. The speaker glares on, listening to every word, arms crossed and shrouded by the absence of light.

"Yeah yeah. Whatever you say."

A moment of silence. Only the hum of the light fixture is audible. The armored figure goes on somberly.

"My companion is talking to the captain of this ship. Trying to teach each other our respective languages I gu-"

The door bursts open. Two more Chiss stand beside a greying human dressed in grey robes. The human wears an excited smile and spews words with more enthusiasm and optimism than any would expect from captured men.

"Wonderful news! My discourse with the commander was highly productive! He wishes to meet with you at once!"

The armored figure rolls his eyes before replying.

"Yeah. I take it he wants to see who it is he's jettisoning out of the airlock before they die."

The figure stands up, turns off his datapad, and retrieves his helmet. The two outsiders were rapidly escorted out of the room by their contingent of Chiss. Quietly, the robed man continues.

"You may find distaste in this, however I have informed the commander of our identities and our objective. He seems quite intrigued and-"

"Are you insane? What were you thinking? Why should they care? Why should they help? Their best option is to give us back to the Republic as a gift! We'll be shot! And that's assuming they don't squeeze us for intel and leave us to rot!"

The robed man looks away from his companion. The two men pause their conversation realizing that their guards are staring at them. There is a moment of silence. One of the Chiss gestures impatiently to the door they have stopped in front of. A faint curse escapes the lips of the armored man, and he enters the room.

A Chiss officer stands firmly on the bridge of his ship. His gaze shifts from the planet hovering nearby in the viewport to the newcomer hovering uneasily in the doorway. He already knows the armored newcomer's name, rank, and mission. Sharp, attentive eyes observe every minute detail of the human. His analysis begins and ends in hardly a second.

The armored man cautiously steps forward. His feet seem to resist his efforts. Something about this man before him is off. It feels as though the red eyes that stare at him see through his armor and into his mind. The armored man regains himself and clasps his hands behind his back. He gives a nod to the Chiss officer. The half second of interaction takes an eternity. Words break the silence like a sledgehammer to glass. More surprising than hearing the Chiss speak is the clarity with which he speaks. Near perfect basic.

"Greetings, lieutenant. I am Commander Mitth'raw'nuruodo of the Chiss Expansionary Defense Force. What do you know of the Far Outsiders?"

Many thanks, guys!

I was wondering when thrawn was gonna show up as soon I saw chiss.

I was considering having another Chiss be there instead, but there really weren't any others that would have dealt with outsiders. Plus this is more dramatic, and I like being dramatic.
